Let’s delve deeper into the world of reloading brass and explore more aspects that can enhance your reloading experience.
- Reloading Brass Materials: Reloading brass is available in various materials, each with its own unique attributes. Common options include brass, nickel-plated brass, and military surplus brass. Brass is the most popular choice due to its durability, ease of reloading, and cost-effectiveness.
- Brass Preparation Techniques: Properly preparing your brass cases is essential for optimal reloading results. This includes steps such as cleaning, resizing, and trimming. By ensuring that your brass is clean, properly sized, and trimmed to the correct length, you can achieve better accuracy and consistency in your reloads.
- Case Neck Preparation: The neck of the brass case plays a crucial role in bullet tension and alignment. Neck turning, chamfering, and deburring are some techniques used to optimize the case neck. By achieving uniform neck thickness and chamfering the inside and outside edges, you can enhance bullet seating and overall accuracy.
- Primer Pocket Cleaning: The primer pocket is where the primer is seated in the brass case. It is important to clean the primer pocket to remove any debris or residue that can affect primer ignition. Tools such as primer pocket cleaners or brushes can be used for this purpose.
- Case Annealing: Annealing is the process of heating the brass case to a specific temperature and then allowing it to cool slowly. This helps to improve the brass’s flexibility and extend its lifespan by reducing the chance of cracking or splitting. Annealing is particularly important for cartridges that undergo multiple reloading cycles.
- Choosing the Right Bullet: The choice of bullet is crucial for achieving the desired performance in your reloads. Factors such as bullet weight, design, and caliber need to be considered based on your shooting requirements.
- Powder Selection: Selecting the right powder is crucial for achieving optimal velocity, accuracy, and consistency in your reloads. Consider factors such as burn rate, bullet weight, and desired velocity when choosing the powder. We offer an extensive range of powders from renowned manufacturers to ensure you find the perfect match for your reloading needs.
- Reloading Data and Load Development: It is essential to consult reliable reloading manuals or online resources to obtain safe and accurate load data. Start with conservative loads and gradually work up to your desired performance while carefully monitoring for signs of excessive pressure. Load development is an iterative process that involves testing different combinations of components to find the most accurate and consistent load for your firearm.

Gail Cleveland –
Exceptionally consistent brass with case weights all within a grain of each other. Measured case necks in an entire box and could find NO case next concentricity problems, all the necks appeared perfectly consistent. If I had a complaint, it would be the new trend toward downsizing case numbers… They should be left at 100 cases per package instead of trying to fool the consumer into thinking that things aren’t costing them as much as they use to even though per case, the price has actually been increased.

I use this Hornady brass in my AR. I wanted something that would help me match the potential of the gun which is a target/varmint version. I have not been sorry. The length was good right out of the box. I did neck size all rounds just to make sure they were uniform. The primers all seated with the same pressure. There was a minimal amount of neck deformation from shipping. I did ream the inside of the flash hole just to make sure it was totally uniform. I bought these in a couple of different lots and they showed relatively close weight tolerances.
